NihaoMap ("the app") is a map of hand-picked places in Shanghai, built for travelers. This policy explains what data the app handles, what leaves your device, and what never does.
NihaoMap has no accounts, no sign-up, no advertising, and no analytics tracking. The app works fully offline after the first launch. Your location is used only on your device to show your position on the map — it is never uploaded to our servers.
Feedback you choose to send. If you submit feedback through the in-app form, we store: your message, the feedback category you picked, the related place (if any), your app version, and your device model / OS version (for example, "iOS 26.5" or "Android 16"). We use this only to fix content errors and improve the app. Feedback cannot be linked back to you — we do not know who sent it.
Your location is requested only while you use the app ("When In Use"), and only to show your position on the map and help you navigate. It is processed on your device. If you decline the location permission, the app still works — the map simply centers on downtown Shanghai instead.
The map and positioning features are provided by the AMap SDK, from Autonavi Software Co., Ltd. (高德软件有限公司). Before any map feature runs, the app asks for your consent. The AMap SDK may process device information, network status, and location data as necessary to render maps and provide positioning, in accordance with its own privacy policy: AMap Privacy Policy. If you decline consent, the AMap SDK is not initialized at all.
The app periodically checks our server (hosted by Supabase, Inc., data stored in the United States) for updated place content. This request carries no personal information — only the content version number the app currently holds.
Feedback records are kept as long as needed to maintain content quality. Since feedback carries no personal identifiers, we cannot look up or delete "your" feedback — there is nothing linking it to you. All other app data (saved places, preferences) lives only on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new date.
